I have been trying to make a dry stuffing mix like this Stove Top Style Stuffing Mix to have on hand for our busy nights and I think I finally nailed it!
Stuffing mix was one of the things that was really hard for us to replace when we switched over to a Trim Healthy Lifestyle. But now I can break out some of my standby meals that our family has loved for many years while staying on plan and eating healthy meals.

Why I Think Stove Top Style Stuffing Mix Is So Great
One of the biggest reasons you want to avoid things like the regular boxed stuffing mixes is that they contain a lot of preservatives and fillers, not to mention white bread.
When you make a batch of Stove Top Style Stuffing Mix, it will save you time when life is hectic. Yes you have to prep a bit ahead of time, but hey aren’t we all worth it?

About The Bread I Use To Make This Stove Top Style Stuffing Mix
So let’s talk about why I use either my Basic Low Carb Yeast Bread or my Wonderful Blender Buns & Dinner Rolls. Yeast breads have a certain flavor and the amounts of yeast and honey that I have used in these recipes fits THM guidelines (adding yeast is not off plan, just be mindful of the amount of honey you use to activate it)
Both of these recipes are Fuel Pull options for following the Trim Healthy Mama Plan. That means that they are naturally gluten free (unless you add vital wheat gluten), low in carbohydrates and fat. So we are not over doing the calorie load, fat load or the carb load to your system.
You can substitute any of the S or FP style breads such as the Swiss Bread (THM Cookbook pg 198 ) or the Wonderful White Blender Bread (Trim Healthy Table pg 242)
Using a sprouted or sourdough bread will make this recipe a crossover based on added ingredients when you prepare it on the stove top.
Drying The Bread Cubes
When you are drying breads like these you really want the temperature to be low on your oven and to spread the cubes out evenly. I normally set my oven to about 200 and stir the cubes every 45 minutes or so, it takes about 2-3 hours to dry the cubes.
Where to Find Freeze Dried Herbs & Spices
Personally, I shop at a local Mennonite store that carries a wide variety of ingredients that are on plan. But Amazon has bulk freeze dried herbs that are reasonably priced and hey just check in your local grocery as many of them have the herbs and spices called for in this recipe.
When You Are Ready To Make A Pan Of Stove Top Style Stuffing
I normally portion my mix up into quart size baggies (2 cups of mix in each). Bring 1/2 a cup of water to a boil with 2 Tablespoons of butter … remove from the heat, stir in your stove top style stuffing mix, cover … wait a few minutes and done!!
