This Homemade Seasoning Blend is a great when added to soups, stews and more.
So many of the recipes that are staples in our homes require a mixture of celery, onions and peppers that making up this homemade seasoning blend and freezing it saves time and money.
I know that when the Trim Healthy Mama Cookbook came out I was excited to see shortcuts using a similar blend to this, however not all grocery stores carry it. By making your own homemade seasoning blend you can package it in the portions needed for each recipe.
I will say that making this myself has saved me money in the long run, I can normally get peppers, onions and celery at reasonable prices and they do go on sale often so I stock up. And then stock our freezer for meals to come.
One of the really cool things about making up your own blends like this is that you could add okra or radishes into the mix as well as mushrooms without it changing the meal types on you.
Bonus Vegetable Stock From Making Homemade Seasoning Blend
I made about 4 quarts of vegetable stock from the ends and pieces that normally go into the garbage when making this Homemade Seasoning Blend. I just threw everything into my instant pot along with some carrots, radishes and mushrooms that needed cooked, with 4 cups of water and processed on high pressure for about 10 minutes with 15 minutes Natural pressure release.
Strained it through a coffee filter and froze in my silicone muffin pan (that makes 2 ounce pucks). I can use these to season rice, soups and stews.
This is an amazing way to reduce food waste and increase your vitamins and minerals in everyday dishes.

What a great idea! Do you cook the radishes before freezing them?
Judy says
Hi Jen 🙂 Yes I blanch radishes before freezing otherwise they turn black which isn’t very appealing.
