We love this taco seasoning mix for tacos as well as to kick up the flavor of vegetables. It may sound silly to create your own spice and seasoning blends, but have you considered how long some of those same seasoning packets have been on a shelf? Do you know what all the ingredients listed on them are?
I started mixing my own spice and seasoning blends in the late 1980’s. It started as a way for me to give handmade gifts to my family and friends. Over the years these homemade blends have blessed our family in a variety of ways.

Knowing what you are seasoning your food with is such a blessing. If you have ever looked at the ingredients of prepackaged seasoning packets you will notice that many of them contain MSG, sugar and a range of things that aren’t even pronounceable words.
While I know that sometimes it is just easier to grab and dump them in the pan etc, etc. It only takes a few minutes to mix up a batch of homemade seasoning that doesn’t have all the icky fillers in it.
It takes a few minutes to either put them into a small jar for storage, I’ve even gone so far as to buy little medicine bags and package this taco seasoning mix into grab n go packs.
I have a basket in my cabinet that holds my homemade blends and I print labels for the mini zip bags so that Rick and I know what they are.
Have you ever made your own seasoning or spice blends?
How to Use this Mix
We love this mix on ground meats as well as roasted vegetables. It adds interest to steamed vegetables that can be a bit bland and boring at times. It also works great as a popcorn seasoning.
