Air Fried Okra Pickles {w/oven option}

February 7, 2021 by Judy Leave a Comment

These air fried okra pickles are quick and super easy to make. They are a great healthy side dish to so many different types of meals. They are great for those that don’t typically like okra because of the texture.

This post may contain affiliate links to Amazon or other programs. I do earn a small commission from the sales made through these links; however your price never changes. You can see my Full Disclosure here.

Okra is one of those foods that people either love or hate because of it’s texture. There is a sliminess factor that to many is very off putting. It is all in how you prepare your okra people!

Okra pickles is the only way I could get Rick on board with getting the healthy vegetable into the regular roation. Personally, I have only ever liked fried okra myself because of the texture.

Enter the air fryer and all of its wonderous mechanics, I actually like air roasted okra and am loving this air fried pickled okra. There is NO SLIME factor!!

What You Need To Make These:

  • 1 jar of okra pickles, we found these at the grocery store
  • some of my Mama’s Bake & Fry Mix or a batch of Hubby Lovin’ Seasoning Mix
  • some liquid egg whites
  • cooking spray {see my note below about what oils I use and why}
  • Preferably an Air Fryer (but you can do them in your oven if needed)

My Favorite Air Fryers

These are the Air Fryers that I have used throughout the last few years
Nuwave 3qt Drawer Style ~ What I started with

This air fryer served us well for about 8 months, it was on the small side so we upgraded to a larger model.

Nuwave 6qt Drawer Style ~ Gifted to me by a friend

One of my dearest friends gifted this model to me for recipe testing in a larger air fryer. We upgraded to the oven style from here

Power Air Fryer Oven 6qt ~ My first oven style

This air fryer was treasured for well over 1 year. It was able to hold enough food for 4 adults without anyone going hungry. My son and his girlfriend were gifted this when we upgraded to the Omni Plus.

Mealthy Crisp lid + Instant Pot Duo60 6qt

This lid was compensation for an honest review, I used it with my original Instant Pot Duo60. It found a home with my stepdaughter when we gifted her my Instant Pot and all of the accessories.

The Instant Vortex Plus ~ Borrowed for recipe testing

I was able to use my neighbor’s for recipe testing compared to my Power Air Fryer Oven.

The Instant Omni Plus ~ Currently Own

This oven style air fryer is large enough to replace our camper oven. It allows me to cook with 13 x 9 sheet pans and air fries wonderfully.

Judy’s Tips & Tweaks

Tip #1

Make sure that you are preheating your air fryer, it makes a difference in your cooking times and results. I use an Instant Omni Plus currently, but these times will also work for other models and drawer style air fryers.

Tip #2

Use a pump style oil sprayer to spray your foods when air frying, using aerosol type sprays can and will cause any non stick coatings to peel from your air fryer. The pump style oil sprayers like this Misto brand one work great and use air pressure to spray verses aerosols.

Know your oils ~ Cooking oils have different smoke points. The smoke point of an oil is when it becomes a trans fat and is no longer healthy for you. I typically use avocado oil when I am air frying because it has one of the highest smoke points, followed by oilive oil (the cheap stuff works great here). There are some occassions when I will use coconut oil, however I normally keep that to lower temperature cooking because of its smoke point.

Tweaks for making Air Fried Okra Pickles

I have made these air fried okra pickles with both the Hubby Lovin’ Seasoning Mix and with my Mama’s Bake & Fry Mix

Personally, we really liked them with a mix of 1/2 Hubby Lovn Seasoning and 1/2 Mama’s Bake & Fry Mix.

I typically buy the ‘hot’ style okra pickles which adds a bit of spice.
