My husband really liked these classic sandwich buns. Rick’s first comment was that “these are very serviceable” What exactly does that mean, you ask?
Well it means that the flavors were good and that they did not have a funky texture. Which is a total win in my book. He tends to load up his burgers with lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, ketchup and mustard. The buns held up to ALL of that!
Why Air Fryer Classic Sandwich Buns Are Amazing
With Grilling season upon us we all need classic sandwich buns, hot dog buns and more for all the great foods available to us.
These buns are amazing because they are 2 net carbs per bun with 3 grams of fat, making them the perfect vessel for enjoying a cookout with family and friends.
They will hold up to dishes like pulled chicken and pulled pork as well as sloppy joes! And wait for it….. They cook in 10 minutes in your Air Fryer!
An Awesome Kitchen Hack for Mason Jar Lids & Bands
This is going to BLOW your mind!!! I was trying to figure out a way to make these classic sandwich buns and needed something that would hold the batter in the shape of a bun. Enter that bag of unused wide mouth mason jar lids and bands.
I flipped the bands so that the top was on the bottom and placed the lid into it with the metal part facing up. It made a perfect mold for these. And man are the ideas racing through my mind now!
I sprayed them with some coconut oil cooking spray and mixed up my batter. put about 2-3 Tablespoons of batter into each one. Sprinkled them with some sesame seeds and slid them onto the racks in my air fryer.
This is the Air Fryer that I have.
I did place my racks in the lowest positions so that the heat was a bit gentler. Ten minutes later they were perfect!
Making Hot Dog Buns
To make the hot dog buns I flipped my twinkie pan over since it is too large for my air fryer and pressed foil around the bottom of the pan to form a foil boat.
I sprayed my foil boats with cooking spray and put 2 Tablespoons of batter into each one. Baked for 10 minutes and WAHOOO!!! Success!! we have mini hot dog buns {regular size hot dogs will fit onto these, but not bun length}

I don’t have an air fryer, how do I bake in an oven?
Judy says
I included the oven instructions in the recipe card 🙂

Are you using the bake setting on the air fryer? Mine only has a basket not racks. I assume this is still ok?
Judy says
Yes I use the bake setting in my air fryer oven, however if you lower the temp in your basket style it will work just fine 🙂

How do these store if I make ahead of time?

If you refrigerate them they last about 1 week
