Where Does Brownie Batter Hummus Into My Trim Healthy Mama Journey?
Anytime you want something sweetly decadent in an E meal, is the short answer. (Wondering what an E meal is? Check out the Trim Healthy Mama Plan Book to find out more.)
I often see mama’s struggling with ways to have sweet treats when having an E meal. Personally, sweet treats for me are limited to a few (3-4 times) a week and most times they are S treats.
My husband is another story entirely, He LOVES his e meals and snacks. He grabbed a bunch of these Sourdough Pretzel Crackers and went to town with this Brownie Batter Hummus.
I grabbed a couple strawberries to go with mine and oh yum!!
Can You Say “Party in your mouth”!! I sure did.
Using Chana Dal vs Canned Chickpeas
The one thing I found when making my Peanut Butter Hummus was that using Chana Dal that I cooked in my Instant Pot made my hummus super creamy!
Check out this post on How To Make Chana Dal In The Instant Pot.
You can get the same effect from canned chickpeas but you have to peel them before processing them in the food processor (messy and takes a while).
How I Make Brownie Batter Hummus In My Vitamix
Rick got me a 32 ounce wet container for the vitamix 5200 that I found on Facebook Marketplace for a great price. I mean he paid more for the container and mini tamper than I did for the blender (isn’t that crazy).
The one thing I had to do was to make this recipe fit within that container so I cut it in half. I needed to do this for a couple of reasons.
Firstly, because you have to have room for the ingredients to move freely in the blender container .
Secondly, because I also made a half batch of this Peanut Butter Hummus so that I could mix them together for a Reeses style hummus.
Blending Instructions For Making Brownie Batter Hummus In The Vitamix
- Place chana dal, 2 TBS of cooking liquid from the chana dal, vanilla extract, cocoa powder, sweetener and mineral salt into the Vitamix container in the order listed and secure lid.
- Select Variable 1.
- Turn machine on and slowly increase speed to Variable 10, then to High.
- Blend 1 minute, using the tamper to push the ingredients into the blades.
- Drizzle with MCT Oil after blending or add to blender with the other ingredients.

What is the difference between dutch process and regular cocoa powder?
Judy says
Dutch processed cocoa has a smoother texture and a richer flavor. Sometimes regular cocoa powders can be bitter due to the way they are processed.
joyce says
are both types acceptable for thm? for some reason, i had in my mind that the dutch processing adds extra things to the cocoa and isn’t acceptable for thm…. ??
Judy says
Both are fine for THM — The sisters reference Hershey’s Dark in the first book for skinny chocolate.
Dee says
Is Hershey’s Dark considered to be the Dutch process type and Regular Hershey powder would not?
Judy says
Yes 🙂 the Hershey’s dark is Dutch process
