This simple sweetener blend recipe is my go to sugar replacement. It works wonderfully in baking as well as added to hot and cold drinks.

Why I Switched to this Simple Sweetener Blend
In 2022 we found out that I had some pretty major vascular issues that would require surgery. I had complications after the surgery (blood clots) which required more surgery.
During my recovery we spoke with my vascular surgeon and he recommended that I discontinue using anything containing erythritol. We also found out that I was having a mild allergic reaction to stevia.
This caused me to reevaluate what sweeteners I was ingesting and through a few hours of research I decided to use this Simple Sweetener Blend. My sister also uses this blend so we compare notes often about how it is working for each of us.
Utilizing Allulose as the Base
Allulose is a low calorie sweetener (approximately 10% lower than sugar) that is found naturally in some plants.
It is not as sweet as refined sugar but it does add the bulk to utilizing this sweetener blend into recipes.
If you are only using allulose the ratio is 1 1/3 cups Allulose in place of 1 cup sugar.
Why I add Monk Fruit Extract
Personally, I like to add a small amount of monk fruit extract, so that this simple sweetener blend can replace regular sugar at a 1:1 ratio.
The Benefits
Some of the benefits of using this simple sweetener blend are:
- Allulose caramelizes similar to sugar, but at a lower temperature. Which allows your baked goods to brown properly.
- This blend will include the bulk needed in some recipes to compensate for the bulk of refined sugar
- Monk Fruit extract is not part of the ragweed plant family, which is a common allergy.
- You can make a powdered sugar replacement by grinding it in your blender or spice grinder.
No Weird Aftertaste
Many people struggle with a weird aftertaste when using sugar alcohols. Neither allulose or monk fruit extract are sugar alcohols which means there is no weird aftertaste.
Storing Your Simple Sweetener Blend
As with any sweetener you will want to store this simple blend in an air tight container. I use a glass jar that one of my grand daughters gave me. it fits perfectly on my counter and allows for easy access when I need it.

- 1 cup Allulose
- 1 teaspoon monk fruit extract
- In a medium mixing bowl, gently combine ingredients well.
- Store in an airtight container, in a cool dry place.
