How I Used Super Food Powders
One of my favorite things about the Trim Healthy Mama Plan is that it makes me think outside the box and away from processed foods.
I have been accumulating a bunch of different super food powders to add to things like my Yuck Yum Bitty from the Trim Healthy Table Cookbook, smoothies and more.
So when this idea popped in my head I thought hey why not use those same powders with all of their health benefits to make some edible glitter.
You only need a small amount of things like this beet powder (seriously only 1/4 tsp) to get a beautiful ruby red shade.
For the Deep Green I used 1/4 tsp of this spirulina powder (blue spirulina will give you an electric blue color).
The Yellow/Gold was 1/4 tsp of ground Turmeric.
The Rose Pink is ground freeze dried strawberries (freeze dried raspberries will give you a fuchsia).
My Light Green was made with kale powder.
Using Gelatin As The Base
I used THM Just Gelatin as the base for these superfood edible glitters, but you can also use a different brand if you choose (each batch would equate to 1 packet of knox unflavored gelatin)
Why I Did Not Add Sweetener To This Edible Glitter
Many times sweets that are made with alternative sweeteners can be over sweetened when we dust them with colored sweeteners, this superfood edible glitter allows you to get the pretty decorations without adding too much sweetener which can make your baked goods taste a bit off to some people.
Feel Free to add sweetener if you like but it really is not needed as the small amounts of edible glitter that are used for decorating don’t really need it.
You can also mix your sweetener with this edible glitter in equal parts to help stretch it over larger batches of cookies.
This Recipe is Easily Scale-able
I chose to make this an extremely small batch recipe so that those mama’s that choose to make small batches of cookies are not over loaded with extra glitter.
Let’s face it many of us have cramped cupboards as it is, so no need to take up valuable space with something that you may not use daily.
