I love to season chicken, steak and chops with this southwestern spice blend to add depth of flavor to our meals. Having this seasoning mixed up and ready to go means that I am not purchasing spice blends that may have a bunch of fillers and even sugar added to them.
Spice blends make for a perfect gift to your favorite Trim Healthy Mama or anyone that is living a healthier lifestyle. You can make a bunch of different spice blends and put them into decorated jars to fill an amazing gift basket that keeps on giving past the holidays. I know that I love these types of thoughtful gifts!

Homemade Spice Blends Are Healthier
One of the reasons that you see so many homemade spice blends like this southwestern spice blend is that they are healthier.
These types of spice blends do not have the crazy fillers like Monosodium glutamate (MSG) which gives me a horrible headache. Are you wondering what MSG is? Check out this article.
They also tend to be a bit more potent than many that you buy in the store because the spices are fresher with no fillers.
When made in small batches like this they need to be replenished a bit quicker, thus ensuring that your spices are fresh.
Ways To Use This Southwestern Spice Blend
Sprinkle 1 tablespoon over your meat and rub it into the meat, this will help to flavor and tenderize your meats prior to cooking.
Add 2 teaspoons or up to 1 tablespoon to your soups and chili to add a wonderful flavor kick.
I have even been known to sprinkle this southwestern spice blend over my veggies before roasting them.
